Sweet Peas in the Garden

17594699Headed out this morning for class at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.  The Great Topics Seminar I am taking at Millsaps College met here for an opportunity to view some items from the Eudora Welty Archives.  We were given a tour of the building and instructions for using the facility for research.  Some of the items we were able to see and peruse included letters from Diarmuid Russell, John Robinson, and Eudora Welty, cartoon sketches Miss Welty made depicting the Mississippi State Fair, unpublished manuscripts, and photographs.  It was truly amazing to be able to see the actual correspondence and manuscripts, photographs and drawings.  What a wonderful way to end the seminar.  It has been such an educational and motivational experience for me and I will miss the regular class meetings.  The group has been invited to join a former seminar group in their regular book club meetings, however, so we will be able to continue reading and studying together!

DSC00227After having lunch together at Hal and Mal‘s I headed home to give my little dog, Cammie, a much needed walk.  As we were walking by the Welty House Cammie literally pulled me into the garden!  We struck our heads in the Visitors Center to say hello and noticed a group of four people on the porch of the house.  Cammie and I headed over to greet them and discovered that they were visiting from Michigan.  They loved seeing Cammie, especially, as they told us that they also have a Jack Russell Terrier at home!

Trying to head on for our walk Cammie still would not give up so I took her on around the house, through the Camellia Room and into the lower garden.   DSC00287IMG_1338

Here I discovered the first sweet pea bloom of the season and knew why Cammie insisted on bringing me all the way through the garden!  Right now sweet peas are my favorite (until the peonies bloom)!

What is blooming in your garden?  I have foxglove and Marie Pavie roses right now and will get busy with my camera to capture them!

Have a great day and thanks for reading!
