Delta Magazine’s 10th Anniversary at The Onward Store

Delta Magazine recently celebrated its’ 10th Anniversary at The Onward Store in Rolling Fork, MS.  A group of friends from Jackson eagerly boarded a bus and headed out for a great celebration.

Onward Store

A friend purchased the historic store in 2012 and has lovingly restored it.  The Onward Store has a rich history stretching back to 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt was invited by Mississippi Governor Andrew Longine to attend a bear hunt.  Legend has it that when he failed to kill a bear, hunt leader Holt Collier tethered one to a tree for him to shoot.  Roosevelt refused, deeming it unsportsmanlike resulting in a political cartoon by Clifford Berryman depicting the event…

Morris Michtom saw the cartoon and, after receiving permission, created the stuffed toy he called “Teddy’s Bear”, and the rest is history.
