I Would Say Yes To A Yurt

A yurt is defined as “a portable, bent dwelling structure traditionally used by nomads in the steppes of central Asia.”

A party I am planning for next spring got me started thinking about yurts because I would like to use some fabric to create a “ceiling” in the magnolia tree room.

Remember this party set up in my garden…

It would serve a functional purpose also as the party will occur right in the middle of the leaf dropping season.  A big brown magnolia leaf in your vichyssoise would be most unappetizing!  I think it could give the feeling of a yurt to the garden party and the limbs would easily serve as the supports for my ceiling.

Thus, I started searching around for inspiration and look what I found…

I remembered the Neiman Marcus dream folly created a couple of years ago for the Christmas Fantasy Gift Book.  Their inspiration was the bottle from the classic 1960s television show I Dream of Genie.  Rebecca Vizard  provided the ultimate luxury with her one-of-a-kind pillows created by hand from the finest textiles gathered from around the world.  Her color inspiration – bubbles!

I had the good fortune to spend some time with Rebecca over Labor Day weekend and will be telling you about that soon.  Being with her and seeing her studio is what jogged my memory about the Neiman Marcus creation…

Yes, I would definitely say Yes to a Yurt!…
