L’Heure Bleue

Photographers call it “sweet light”, l’heure bleue, the period each morning and evening between daylight and darkness.  The quality of light during this time is special, the sky appears so vividly blue that it is indeed The Blue Hour.

I was in The Grove at Ole Miss just before game time when I could tell that it was coming…

There are many restaurants, hotels and theatres around the world whose name reflects the specialness of this time…

The term was used in English culture referring to the time of day a drinker encountered when the pubs had closed after lunch and not yet reopened for dinner.  The blue hour is largely a thing of the past now that most establishments remain open all day!

I am keeping my eyes open for the blue hour…

    Marsha,
Your photos are beautiful; they really capture the “blue.” Have you read BLUE NIGHTS by Joan Didion? She refers to this light in the beginning of the book.
