A Little Free Library

You may be wondering, “What is a Little Free Library?”.

I am so excited to tell you!

It’s a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share.

now there is one located in front of the Visitor’s Center at The Eudora Welty House and Garden Museum…

The library was designed by Arthur Jones and my friend, Jeff Becker, is responsible for the impeccable construction…

I asked him for some specifications regarding the materials.
The side and bottom surfaces are marine-grade plywood…
Little Free Library
Yes, he told me, that marine-grade, as in boats!

The roof is constructed of real house decking and you can see that the shingles are cedar….

They took care to make sure that the library is totally waterproof…

The louvered gable vents are painstakingly detailed…

Siding and soffit have real sand mixed with the paint to replicate stucco.
Doors have removable plexiglass in the event of breakage or scratching…

The hardware is painted with distressed black iron paint.
The house is situated on cross-framing with decorative sides,
and attached with unconventional hardware to mitigate the absconding of Miss Eudora’s residence!
Thanks Jeff for the construction and details!
Stop by anytime to borrow or bring a book…
