A Buford Family Christmas At The Alluvian Hotel

Wednesday night was the tenth annual performance of “A Buford Family Christmas” at the Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood, Mississippi.  A years long tradition for us I think the only time I missed was the year that an ice storm paralyzed us here in the deep south!  This bevy of beauties is full of musical talent.  Mother, Gwin Pryor Buford, is a classically trained vocalist and to hear her sing is to receive a preview of heaven.  “Ave Maria” and “Oh Holy Night” at her command transport you to a place of calm and expectation during the hurried holiday season.  “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” brings a tear to your eye as she tells of the separations and reunions brought about by World War II …

Buford Family Christmas

Begun ten years ago as a thank you from the Alluvian Hotel to the people of  the Mississippi Delta for their patronage, the performance is offered twice during the evening in order to accommodate the crowd.  This is a well received thank you that has become a not-to-be-missed event.

For me it feels like Christmas has truly arrived after I have made the trek northward to the small town of Greenwood to enjoy this purely for pleasure escape from my to-do list!

As the years have gone by, talented granddaughters have become an integral part of the performance…

Yes, Christmas is truly here now that I have made my yearly trek to the Mississippi Delta for A Buford Family Christmas.
