Ordinary Time

Perhaps a little misleading, the term “Ordinary Time”…

Ordinary Time

In the liturgical year of the church the term does not refer to “usual or average or uneventful”, rather the meaning here is “not seasonal”.

Basically, this is the time of year which is outside the seasons, Lent-Easter and Advent-Christmas.

For me personally the two references come together during these days of “ordinary time”.

The regular days spent picking up the dry cleaning and doing the grocery shopping are rather welcome after the busier seasonal times.

I am usually ready for some average, uneventful days by the time they roll around.

Today was one of those days spent going to the gym, meeting with a client and grocery shopping.

It is fun for me to look for the beautiful and extraordinary in my daily routine…

The focus of these days is on how to live out our daily lives and grocery shopping is definitely one of the daily chores that can be so hum-drum.

One of the things that makes it bearable for me is the advent of the florist department in many grocery stores.

My neighborhood grocery has a wonderful floral department managed by a talented and friendly gentleman…
