First Impression

The entrance to a home provides the first impression for neighbors and visitors.  It is an opportunity to show a little personality and give a hint of what awaits inside.  There are many ways to provide some anticipation at the front door whether you have a porch, a portico, or a simple step up.

Color is definitely a design element that creates an impression…

of course yellow is also a beckoning bright…

the green is serene and calming…

and other elements like the gate add to the overall effect…

the turned balustrades are beautiful…

adding the element of ivy is appealing ( we tried this here OPP and later abandoned it due to the upkeep)…

the ivy does soften things up though…

my neighbor’s front entrance is always welcoming with seasonal splendor…

and I love the way the inhabitant of this garage apartment creates an inviting entry (sorry about the blurry photo, one of the flower girls must have been pulling on the leash)…

flags are another way to display a little personality…

However you choose to design the entrance, it is your chance to make a statement about what lies beyond.

Why not have some fun with it?  What are you doing to make a first impression?
