Succulent Strategies

I have long been a fan of succulents in the garden but this year I have some new succulent strategies in the works.

Is it just me or does there seem to be increasing interest in these fabulous plants?…

Succulents

I mean with names like baby toes, hen and chicks, and burro’s tail how could you resist them?

I have been admiring succulent wreaths all over pinterest and in catalogues for a while and so I decided it was time for me to give it a try…

I really had to make myself space them out a bit since I know they will need room to grow…

it will look like this soon enough…

Why stop there?  A recent trip to a local garden center inspired me to try my hand at a succulent orb.

I purchased two hanging baskets lined with coco mat…

hanging baskets

filled them with dirt and used a paper plate to hold the dirt in one side as I flipped them together…

I know the paper will disintegrate so it was a good solution for keeping my soil in place for the flip!

I then used cable ties to fasten the two baskets together…

I used a screwdriver to make holes in the mat and began popping in my plants…

I hope it will look like this soon…

and the best news is I won’t have to worry about watering when it is one hundred degrees this summer…

I am having fun with my succulent strategies!
