A Sweet Surprise

I need to tell you about a sweet surprise that I received from one of my dear readers this week.  I loved getting an email with a such a lovely photo of a painting found in a New York Times article memorializing Gabriel Garcia Marquez.  Having read my post on peacocks, my friend sent it to me because of the lovely peacock in the painting.  I was mesmerized by the artist’s technique and asked if she knew the source.  A couple of days later I received from her a photocopy of the artist’s web page.  I was so excited to know who he is and looked forward to doing a little research.  Today when I pulled the page back out for another look I noticed a note under a post-it note!  Lo and behold, not only was she sharing the information with me, she had ordered the book containing all of his garden paintings for me!  What?  For Me?  Oh I am such a lucky girl to have this thoughtful friend.  And so, it was a double surprise and I cannot wait to share a bit of it with you.

The artist, ATAK (George Barber) lives in Berlin where he is a freelance artist, illustrator and graphic designer.  Most recently he illustrated Mark Twain’s “The Mysterious Stranger.”

The garden paintings are the ones that have captured my love…

He expresses his love for the garden poetically, “The garden breathes the time, and the time breathing as a garden.  I go in the evening in the garden to breathe.  I touch the new flowers when I would stroke my dog.  Pat your possessions, caress your friends and watch the changes…pat, caress, observe, these are the duties of a garden friend.”

Thank you PC, my dear friend.

I swoon…
