Botanical Arts

Today I will be attending a workshop to learn about botanical arts creations.

Botanical art is an artistic craft which is designed and created from all dried plant material.  Sometimes the category includes embellishing a man made item which you will see examples of below.

My first encounter with these was a couple of years ago when I attended a national meeting of The Garden Club of America.

I was intrigued…

GCA Centennial

they were so small and created entirely out of plant materials…

It was not as easy as one might think! Stay tuned for a progress report on that!

This will be great fun! I am with you, love the woodpecker. Almost looks like the one that was pecking on my bedroom window early this morning!

  3. Mary Pressly says:

I was the creator of the woodpecker doorknocker you have posted. It was titled “Bill Collector”. If you look closely the screws are made using split peas. If you want more images contact me.

Your piece is so impressive! I ended up entering the Memphis in Bloom Flower Show last month and received a second place finish but also the GCA Novice Award in Botanical Arts! It was so much fun and also an amazing amount of work. I would love to see some of your other creations and get any tips from you that will help me. Thanks for commenting, I will make contact by email. Happy embellishing!
