Barbara Tuffli

Last week I had the pleasure of hearing Barbara Tuffli speak here in Jackson – first in the Eudora Welty Camellia Room and then again at a Garden Club of Jackson meeting.

Barbara, a native of the Bay Area of San Francisco, inherited a mature garden containing many camellias and now numbering upwards of 500!  You read that right – 500!

For the GCJ meeting members brought camellias and daffodils for an informal flower show which we enjoyed before and after the program…

and such a welcome sight as spring is eagerly awaited…

Barbara’s accomplishments and talents are numerous.  Among them, she is the founder of the Camellia Trail, a compilation of over 40 gardens containing significant camellia collections open for the public to enjoy.  In addition to this accomplishment she is a past president of the American Camellia Society.

Of course, she has many other accolades of note but her photography really caught my eye…

Images of her camellia portfolio were on display for our meeting…

Oh, and that is artist Pryor Graeber’s painting propped up there!  It will be won by one lucky raffle ticket purchaser at our spring fundraiser in March.  If you would like to take a chance just let me know and I will get you set up with as many chances as you would like!

Here you see some prints that Barbara created using handmade papers purchased from an estate sale in Japan…
