Feathered Friends

We have lots of feathered friends here OPP and I always keep the bird baths full of fresh water for them.  I used to enjoy having bird feeders and watching the different guests as they dropped by.  I had to stop that after two certain flower girls started getting dive bombed by angry birds!

Anyway, yesterday afternoon as I was going about a few gardening tasks I noticed that my new dawn rose was leaning to the left.  As I went to straighten it what to my wondering eyes should appear?

I quickly backed away and left the crooked rose alone!  I had been noticing a little bird flying in and around that rose but had not spied the nest so it was a pleasant surprise.  I did not get reprimanded for this intrusion and so I am surmising that the babies were napping and mother and father were out hunting and gathering because this morning it was another story.

On my early morning walk through the garden mom and pop were busy flying back and forth with breakfast…

these pictures are small because I was so far away and only had my iPhone so they are heavily cropped…

Later in the day I came  back out to carry a tray of  plants to the lower garden and was greeted with the sharp “tik tik” of the Northern Cardinal’s call.  They obviously wanted me to leave the premises…

they followed my every step “tik tikking” as I went…

Well I couldn’t help myself! I ventured back over to the nest to check on things and behold

an empty nest…

So the little ones are out and about but nowhere to be found inside the walls of my garden.

it’s probably a good thing for them

  1. Nature is amazing…the Cardinals are very protective … but if you happen to run into a Blue Jay nest you may have to move out for a couple of weeks or just stay indoors. Our last nest was Doves in a boxwood…amazing!

I love watching the birds! I have doves also but their nest is high up in the wisteria so I can’t see it but I watched them building it one Saturday morning. Yes, nature is amazing…

  2. I love seeing our feathered friends when I’m out walking or just looking out my window. Even their songs of praise to our Creator early in the morning bring joy to my heart. Thanks for sharing!
