A Garden Club Gathering

Yesterday the Garden Club of Jackson hosted the Natchez Trace District of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi for their district meeting at the Country Club of Jackson.  It was a great gathering of garden enthusiasts from around the state.

I think my friend Susie Puckett, owner of The Everyday Gardener, had a little something to do with the arrangements that greeted the ladies in the foyer…

We offered two workshops, one on growing dahlias and one on small flower arrangements.  I presented the dahlia workshop and think that I convinced several of the ladies to give growing dahlias a try!

The small flower arrangement workshop looked like fun and my friends had done so much work preparing special flowers for the participants to arrange.  Each person was to bring a small vase along with them to the workshop.  There was a plethora of flowers and foliage from which to choose…

The ladies were instructed to look at the offerings and choose three items that really spoke to them.  They were to think of each stem as a gift and arrange them accordingly.  I loved this idea – rather than hastily grabbing a bunch of flowers this was a thoughtful and personal way of creating a meaningful arrangement.

choices were artfully displayed…

I would have had a hard time choosing just three…

It was a great gathering and I was honored to have participated!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, mine will definitely include some time in the garden…

  1. How wonderful. Love the flowers on the welcome table as well as the created arrangements. I would love to grow Dahlias and as soon as I get my foundation plantings complete, I plan on moving on to the fun stuff. My yard is coming along….still. I had no idea how hard starting with a blank slate would be but it sure is fun.

I love what I have seen of your yard so far and you should easily find a spot for some dahlias!

I can’t imagine what the problem with the subscription is. I’ll ask around though and let you know if I find out anything. Thanks for taking the trouble to look it up in the meantime!
