Blithewold Mansion and Gardens

Blithewold was the property of the Van Wickle family who built the 45 room English-style mansion and extensive gardens overlooking Narragansett Bay and they welcomed the Garden Club of America Visiting Gardens group with open arms.

Upon arrival we entered the beautiful garden…

There are numerous display gardens, architectural elements and a restored greenhouse.

This was an incomparable garden and my head is spinning with ideas to incorporate into the gardens OPP.

There is more to share from Blithewold, but as usual I am off and running again today to take in more garden splendor.

greetings from beautiful Newport…

  1. Oh you lucky girl…so many great places to visit. My mother was a Kennedy fan and as a child we visited Hammersmith Farm …summer home of Jaqueline K.O. …compared to other homes in Newport it was not large, but I remember I loved the view. Thanks so much for sharing these great places.

I was fortunate enough to take a sunset cruise and viewed Hammersmith from the water. Back home in Mississippi I am already missing the cooler temps of Newport!

  2. How wonderful to experience spring again! Beautiful! Are there many zone IX ladies on the trip?

  3. The gardens are incredible, and the stonework…amazing! Looks like the perfect way to spend the day!

I have more from Blithewold to share later, it was beautiful and the head gardener who gave our tour reminded me so much of Susan!
