The Art of Display: Gene Moore

I love window displays and Gene Moore had to be the ultimate talent with the art of display.  A Birmingham, Alabama, native, Moore moved to NYC in the 1930s where he worked for Bonwit Teller and joined Tiffany’s on 5th Avenue in 1955.  There he remained weaving his magical displays for the rest of his career.

Over the span of his career Moore would design about 5,000 windows!

Many displays featured his collection of stuffed hummingbirds…

I got into researching Mr. Moore after I saw a few of his creations that reminded me of many of the botanical arts entries I have been seeing in the Garden Club of America’s flower shows.   You can read about some of those here and here

Take for example this gumdrop watermelon…

My mind immediately goes to “what could I use to create with from botanical materials?”

Well after I found that one I just couldn’t stop admiring his work.
