Pollinators at Bellingrath Gardens

A group of gardening friends headed south for a summer field trip this week.  I enjoyed hearing Harvey Cotten’s lecture on gardening to attract and protect pollinators at Bellingrath Gardens yesterday.  Mr. Cotten is a horticultural consultant who is largely responsible for the creation and design of the Botanical Gardens in Huntsville, Alabama.

I came away with several ideas for adding plants to the garden here OPP in order to attract more butterflies and bees.

I also grabbed a copy of Mr. Cotten’s book…

  1. This is very timely for me. My vegetable garden appears gorgeous and lush this year, but I have yet yo have a zucchini…lots of flowers. I have been trying to attract pollinators as I believe this is the reason I have yet to pick a squash. I will be checking this out…may be too late for this year, but definitely a consideration for next…thanks
