Artist Georgia Russell

A book sculpture by Scottish artist Georgia Russell grabbed my attention when I saw it on Object Lesson this week.

Object Lesson is a particular favorite of mine.  Author Carol Fertig shares one – and only one – object per day which is guaranteed to be interesting and, yes, accidentally educational!

I had never seen anything quite like Russell’s book sculpture and naturally had to find out  more about her.  She loves old books and France.  I just happen to be reading The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George right now and discovering Georgia Russell fit in perfectly.  The artist loves strolling the banks of the Seine where she meets booksellers and, inspired by their wares, creates works of art using the covers of books.  The protagonist in LPB happens to be a bookseller operating his “literary apothecary” from a boat docked on the Seine!  Perfect fit, right?
