Wishing For a Watering Can

I read about Haws Watering Cans in Betty Bearden Pardee’s blog post yesterday and it has me wishing for a watering can!  Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of watering cans.  Most of mine have been collected over the years and are flea market finds.  I love them all and they would not be relegated to the junk heap if I were to be lucky enough to obtain a Haws Watering Can…

In 1886 John Haws of London obtained his patent for a new and improved watering pot…

John Haws

the patent read…

‘This new invention forms a watering pot that is much easier to carry and tip, and at the same time being much cleaner, and more adapted for use than any other put before the public.’

Haws improved the design of the french watering pots creating a can with perfect balance.  It doesn’t matter how much water is in the can, the waterer is able to use the can with any strain.  Maybe this guy would come and help me…

To this day, the original design has not been altered in any major way.

There are many sizes and colors from which to choose…

The spraying device at the end of the wand, the rose, has different functions based on what you are watering and so there are choices there as well…

It really doesn’t matter what kind of can it is, you’re likely to find one in my hand most of the time these dog days…
