Steve Hartman’s Weed Addiction

One of my favorite things about summer is the extra time I have on Sunday mornings since my choir gets a sabbatical and I do not have to be at church at 8:15.

I have probably told you before that I LOVE to watch…

Sunday morning’s segment on Steve Hartman hit a home run with me.  Hartman, a CBS New Correspondent since 1998, lives in upstate New York and confessed that he has a weed addiction.  It apparently hit home with him after his wife was interviewed and revealed that he goes outside at 7pm to weed and doesn’t come back inside until dark.  Here’s the deal – he is weeding 4 1/2 acres!

Several years ago he got the idea to turn his weedy hillside into a wildflower mecca…

Hartman even has a dealer for his addiction, Neil Diboll owner of Prairie Nursery in Wisconsin, got him hooked on plants like Purple Coneflower, Compass Plant and Smooth Aster.

what began as a chore eventually turned into a passion…

“Weeding can induce a meditative state,” said Neil. “And that is therapy for all of us in this crazy world we live in when you can just tune everything out and focus on one, single-minded purpose.”

the weedy hillside has come a long way…

  1. I so totally agree! My weeds become my problems and I get great relief in pulling them out! Ha!
