Sara Foster

I was so excited to meet Sara Foster, cookbook author and chef/owner of famed Foster’s Market in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  I actually made a detour on a trip several years ago in order to experience the Market I had read so much about in her books.  Well, she has a new book, Foster’s Market Favorites, a 25th anniversary collection…

She was in Jackson at one of my favorite local hangouts, Lemuria, to meet folks and sign copies of her book…

My friend and fabulous caterer, Ingrid Taylor, had been asked to prepare some recipes from the book for tasting at the event.  I offered up some help with the set up and got to visit with Sara as we prepared.

As we were chatting I found out that Leigh Anne Tuohy, whose story was the inspiration behind the popular movie The Blind Side, would also be there signing her new book.  Not only that, she and Sara Foster are first cousins!  It’s such a small world!

Leigh Anne’s book is a five-day-a-week devotional…

and so the cousins signed side by side…

you’ll want to grab a copy of this book, head straight to your local market and get ready to enjoy some great food…

Everything was delicious and she is so gracious and fun to be with. Go visit Foster’s Market if you find yourself in North Carolina!

  3. Hi Marsha – I was just in Jackson this past weekend (I live in Dallas), for my beautiful MIL’s 95th birthday! I would have loved to stay & meet Sara for the book signing. One day several years ago, I phoned Foster’s Market to inquire about their shrimp & grits recipe, & the person who answered the phone was in fact Sara! She was so gracious and sent me the recipe. It is delicious. I love your blog, & as my husband is from Jackson, it is very interesting to me to follow all of your beautiful posts.

Thanks so much for your kind words Sherry and thanks for following along with me. I wish that you could have stayed to meet her because I know you would have loved being around her as much as I did! How wonderful for you to be celebrating 95 years for your MIL, that is amazing.
