Christmas at the Governor’s Mansion

I ran down to the Governor’s Mansion this week to help with planting some daffodil bulbs.  A friend and fellow gardener has been instrumental in planting and tending a cutting garden for Mississippi’s first family for a while now.  Volunteers from the Garden Club of Jackson meet regularly to keep seasonal flowers blooming for the First Lady.

My friend unfortunately had a little fall in her garden and was out of commission for the daffodil planting.  I’m not a regular with this group but felt like I wanted to help out and make sure her bulbs got going so off I went.  As usual, whenever I think I’m going to help a friend I receive more than I give!

You see, we were invited inside the Mansion to see all of the Christmas decorations!  My friend Jessie of Maidenhair Floral…

had participated in much of the floral design for the season and I was thrilled to get to see what she had done. (click on her logo to visit the website)  That’s not all, another friend, and former Eudora Welty Museum employee, is now at the Governor’s Mansion and she gave us the full tour.

I thought you might like to enjoy my surprise too so come along…

It was fun to be in the house when it was virtually empty.  Whenever I have been in before the place is full of other admirers and the views aren’t unobstructed…
