Luncheon of the Year

I have been planning a luncheon for a group of ladies from the Garden Club of America for about a year and last week it was showtime…

The group came from far and near and were treated to some real southern hospitality from Jackson to Natchez to Laurel.  I dreamed up a spring luncheon in the garden that was going to be picture perfect (best laid plans)!  Well, Mother Nature and a few other untimely events led to much improvising and deep breathing.

When I tell you that is rained last week what I really mean is that I expected Noah and his crew to show up at any moment!

Rain makes for a pretty garden though…

there was even a “snow” flurry…

I had been collecting linens from my travels and couldn’t wait to see how everything came together…

This tablecloth and napkins were brought home from Siena, Italy…

my friend, Peggy Goldstein, of The Decorated Letter did all of the monogramming throughout…

I also had more than a little help from my friend Susie Puckett and her assistant Kandy Sims of The Everyday Gardener.  Her floral arrangements were spectacular…

I had a bit of flowery fun myself with the basket on my gate…

this cloth was brought back from Luca, Italy…

I had so much fun ironing it and identifying all the different flowers…

IMG_6594

for the blue and white table I sewed a cloth of pretty floral fabric and used an antique cutwork piece as a topper…

IMG_6602

my friend Lee Threadgill helped me put together the yellow parrot tulips and spray roses…

IMG_6603

Peggy came through with a last minute addition of these beautiful cocktail napkins…

I brought in a few fallen blooms after the snowstorm and placed them in my pagoda…

My friend Ingrid Taylor served up a salad sampler that was simply delicious…

IMG_6610

not to mention the dessert…

As it turned out, the rain held off for the couple of hours that the group was here and so we were able to walk through the garden before lunch.  All in all it was a great day and a successful event that I enjoyed from start to finish.

Oh, except there were a few other bumps along the way…
