New Covent Garden Flower Market

Whew, it’s been a busy few days here OPP having both out of town kids home with pups in tow…

All is quiet now and I’m looking forward to sharing some more with you from my recent trip to England!

Early one morning we visited the New Covent Garden Flower Market with our new best friend, Judith Blacklock.  Judith has authored 12 books and is also the editor of Flower Arranger magazine.  She has arranged flowers for the Chelsea Flower Show and Kensington Palace as well as many other high profile venues.  Visiting the flower market with her was amazing…

New Covent Garden Flower Market is the biggest and best wholesale flower market in the UK…

image

Several times larger than any other market in the UK, New Covent Garden is the ultimate one-stop shop…

Buckets and buckets of sweet peas…

And peonies…

All along the way Judith was giving tips for selecting the freshest flowers…

image

My favorite tip was to look for tulip bunches with the foliage taller than the buds.  As you probably know, the tulip continues to grow after it is cut and by selecting the bunch with buds below foliage you are getting the freshest flowers!

Judith knows all the vendors and they were all kind enough to visit and answer questions…

Many of the vendors we met were third generation owners of their businesses and why not?

Where could anyone be happier than here…

There was more treasure in addition to the floral abundance but I think it would have put me over the luggage weight limit…

Visiting the market was only the beginning of a fabulous floral filled trip.

These flower girls were treated to a spa day at the Dog Wash before Maggie boarded her flight back to Maine yesterday…

Happy Birthday to number 2 son!

It’s might quiet around here…
