Farleigh House

A visit to a private home in Hampshire was a highlight from my recent trip across the pond…

Hmmm, Farleigh House may qualify as more than just a “country home”…

We didn’t even have to ring the bell as we were greeted heartily just as soon as we disembarked the “motor coach”…

A house has stood on this property for almost a thousand years and the building and land has made its way through generations without ever having been bought or sold.

It was cool enough for a fire the day we visited and I loved the basket of firewood at the ready right beneath the stairs in the entrance hall…

The Lord of the estate today was a classmate of Prince William’s at Eton and I quite liked hearing a bit about a recent redecoration of the house.  As it turns out, the young lady hired to oversee the process caught the eye of said gentleman and wedding bells are in their near future!

I loved everything about the elegant and comfortable updates…

You know how I adore a perfectly appointed bookcase…

The simple adornment with pots of flowers from the garden was appealing…

image

Did I mention elegant and comfortable…

As I said, generations of the family have lived here for almost a thousand years and each portrait in the home is of a family member…

The small corner room just beyond this door was so inviting…

views from home to garden were a strong pull to the outdoors…

There’s so much more to see of this enchanting estate that I’ll break it up between a few posts…

You won’t want to miss any of it…

image

only one thing could have been an improvement…

  1. Love the wallpaper in the bedroom! What is the stone on the exterior? Small pieces that look brick-like?

  2. There’s a reason this style is timeless. So perfectly beautiful!
