Fall in the Mall Y’all

A friend and I traveled down to Laurel, MS, to view a Garden Club of America Flower Show presented by the Laurel Garden Club last week…

I thought it was so clever to stage the show in a local shopping mall and to have the classes of competition play off shopping mall inspired themes.

One floral design class was based on foods found in shopping malls.

hamburgers and hotdogs…

Remember the Orange Julius…

Loved the oriental entry…

The conservation exhibit was outstanding…

Horticulture competition was full of inspiring items and I was excited to see a new Garden Club of Jackson member taking home several blue ribbons…

Another floral design category for a mass arrangement inspired by a full shopping bag…

I was excited for a friend from the Laurel Garden Club to snag the blue ribbon for her first attempt at entering a competition!  Oh, and to top it off she was the co-chairman of the entire event!

Botanical arts category “embellish a tennis shoe” represented the ever present mall walkers!

the winner…

Of course there was jewelry…

I entered the class for embellishing a cell phone case and was pleased to come away with second place after my design didn’t come out quite as I had planned…

The winner…

Junior Gardeners created pot people…

But the piece de resistance was created by my friend Amelia Crumbley with her “taking the Plunge” dress form…

It was stunning…

Job well done Laurel Garden Club!

I am a friend of Lynda Wright and she forwarded this to me. Thank you for entering our show and coming to Laurel. I thought it turned out well and exposed the public to probably something they had never seen.It was interesting to observe them as they viewed the exhibits. I entered a tennis shoe that was gold and silver with brightly painted leaves around the bottom and won 3rd place. Come back to Laurel soon.
