Walt Disney Concert Hall and Community Park

While I was in Los Angeles recently I paid a visit to the Walt Disney

 Concert Hall and Community Park…

At first my friend and I thought we would drive by the magnificent structure just so I could see the building…

But the lure to see more was strong and so we decided to park and walk inside.

The Nimbus sculpture was our greeting…

Wow…

We were pleasantly surprised by the availability of a superb audio tour and quickly decided to avail ourselves of the opportunity to learn more about the Hall.

Lillian Disney’s $50 million dollar gift made possible the tribute to Walt Disney’s passion for the arts and devotion to the city of Los Angeles.

Frank Gehry designed the building which opened in October 2003…

There are even built in trenches designed to direct the flow of rainwater which assists with keeping the walls clean…

Brightly colored floral carpet design is fresh and fun…

The design is named, of course, Lillian…

Practice was in session on the day of our visit so we were unable to get a glimpse of the concert hall itself.  This smaller venue gave me an idea of how the bigger hall would look…

The gardens were equally as impressive as the hall…

image

throughout were pretty places to sit and enjoy the surroundings…

image

I loved the labyrinth of donor names…

My favorite feature was the rose fountain…

image

Created with shards of delft porcelain…

image

It took eight workers something like two weeks to put each piece into place…

Boy was I glad we made the decision to park and explore!  Now I’ve got to make it back to actually enjoy a performance in this amazing place!
