A Holiday Field Trip

I set out on Saturday to procure a small beef tenderloin because I wanted to try a new recipe before Chrismas Day and ended up on a holiday field trip!

As I headed north toward Kroger I made a snap decision and kept on going to Flora, MS and the Flora Butcher.  I have read about this entrepreneur and was intrigued by his story.

Fine dining chef David Raines’ butcher shop  focuses on Wagyu beef raised by his dad in Louisiana.

The shop was festively attired…

I’ll just go ahead and tell you that the tenderloin turned out to be perhaps the best I have ever eaten.  The new recipe will be repeated too!  It’s the one in Ina Garten’s How Easy Is That that uses Dijon mustard and balsamic vinegar – yummy!

Flora has a small town vibe that makes you want to stay awhile…

A friend had told me about a cute shop on the street so I checked it out while I was there!

The Corner Market…

It’s an antique mall of sorts with a bit of this and that thrown in…

I picked up a few goodies and loved this whimsical stool…

Let me know if you take any holiday field trips…

  1. We love the Flora Butcher……get milk, local veggies, beef, sausages, tamales from my home town of Leland, etc. there. I picked up a nice watercolor painting of flowers at the place you went. Glad I went there before you did!
