Mrs. Brown

I’m in high anticipation for the release of Judy Dench’s latest theatrical collaboration with director Stephen Frears – “Victoria & Abdul.”  An article in the local paper touting Dame Judy’s accomplishments this week caught my eye and I decided that a viewing of “Mrs. Brown” was in order…

I don’t think that I had ever seen this one surprisingly!  I suppose that I was in the midst of taking care of the kiddies and didn’t have as much disposable time for British films and tele in those days!

If you, like me, are anxiously awaiting another season of “The Crown” or “Victoria” then this is just the fix for you…

the scenery and costumes are sufficient to quell the need for some royal watching…

In talking about the new movie Dench says that she didn’t expect to be playing Victoria again but she cedes that all of her earlier work came right back and filled in the character for her.  For his part, Frears said that he would only agree to make “Victoria & Abdul” if Dench agreed to play the part!

I loved the tartans in a dance scene at Balmoral…

MRS. BROWN, Judi Dench, 1997.

I found the flick on Amazon and paid a nominal rental fee and am certainly glad I did…

I was doing double duty and trying to finish up a piece of needlepoint. aptly Kirk and Bradley’s Chelsea Eccentric Garden…

looks like it will take another episode of Ken Burns’ series on Vietnam to complete this one!

have a great weekend…
