Delight at the Dixon

A friend in Memphis who knows me well gets the credit for making sure I saw the current exhibit at the Dixon Gallery, Isabelle de Borchgrave Fashioning Art From Paper

De Borchgrave, a Belgian painter whose studio and shop opened in a Brussels in the 1970s, found her way to paper art after visiting an exhibit at the Met in New York in 1994.

She has produced four major collections which are on exhibit through the end of this month in Memphis.  I would be hard pressed to declare a favorite among these delights.

In  Papiers a la Mode, 300 years of fashion history is narrated.

Queen Elizabeth’s court dress was the first stop on my journey…

detail of the tromp l’oeil…

I am completely mesmerized…

Madam de Pompadour…

No detail is overlooked…

The Dixon Gallery itself is resplendent in its holiday decor…

Following along with the paper theme a fireplace is cleverly adorned with paper doilies…

A nod to hats in a staircase garland…

This visit was truly a highlight in my holiday season…

I’ll revisit this exhibit but just had to give you a glimpse of it before heading into the home stretch of the holidays.

good luck to all as we wind up our preparations…
